Difference Between Fiber Optic and Cable

Aug 16, 2022

first,the subject is different

1. Optical cable: It is a communication cable assembly that uses one or more optical fibers placed in a sheath as a transmission medium and can be used individually or in groups.

2. Cable: A wire made of one or more mutually insulated conductors and an outer insulating protective layer that transmits power or information from one place to another.

Second, the structure is different

1. Optical cable: It is composed of optical fiber (glass filament as thin as hair), plastic protective sleeve and plastic outer skin. There is no metal such as gold, silver, copper and aluminum in the optical cable.

2. Cable: It is a rope-like cable formed by twisting several or several groups of wires (at least two in each group). Each group of wires is insulated from each other, and is often twisted around a center. Has a highly insulating cover.

3. Different conditions of use

1. Optical cable: The bending radius of the optical cable should not be less than 15 times the outer diameter of the optical cable, and should not be less than 20 times during the construction process.

2. Cable: The long-term allowable working temperature of the wire core is 65 °C, and the minimum bending radius of the wire is 6 times the diameter of the cable. Yellow jacketed cables must not be exposed to sunlight for long periods of time.
