How to choose coaxial cable?

before you buy coax

There are many things to consider when choosing the best coaxial cable for your application.

What equipment are you using? Cell boosters may require different cables than satellite dishes. Is the cable installed inside or outside? Different use cases require different cable ratings.

See the different cable types to see which cables are best for your device. Choose the one with the impedance, rating and connector you need.

Next, calculate the distance between the transmitter and receiver. For example, the distance from the outdoor antenna to the set-top box or amplifier. Since a shorter cable run produces a cleaner signal, your cable should be close to the distance you calculated. Nothing is shorter or too long.

Loss of signal is inevitable when traversing any distance. A shorter cable will have less loss than a longer cable, and a thicker cable will have less loss than a thinner cable. Acceptable damage depends on your device and your application. To minimize losses, the impedance between the cable and the device must be matched.

Remember, there are various online calculators available if you want to calculate the loss.
