Category 6 network cable (CAT6) is a kind of network cable, that is, cable conforming to CAT-6 standard. The transmission rate is 1000Mbps. Cat6 cable provides gigabit Ethernet with a length of 100 meters, usually using No. 23 conductor, which is equivalent to about 0.0226 inches in diameter of each wire.

Generally called CAT-6 cable, it is the transmission wire standard used on Gigabit Ethernet and other CAT-5/CAT-3 down-compatible networks. Compared with CAT-5 cable, CAT-6 cable strengthens the protection against crosstalk and system noise. In terms of specifications, its signal transmission frequency is up to 250MHz, which is suitable for various Ethernet transmission standards such as 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T. In a short distance, CAT-6 can even be used as a 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GBASE-T) architecture.
The wire rod of some TIA standards is composed of four pairs of twisted pairs. According to the standards in ANSI/TIA-568-B.2-1, the diameter of CAT-6 wire can be from 22AWG to 24AWG, which is more flexible than that of CAT-5 wire.
